What is Online Physical Therapy
Apr 12, 2023Why Choose Outdoor Women’s Wellness?
I have extensive knowledge and experience in this field having been a Physical Therapist for the past five years and now going into my third year of performing PT remotely. In the beginning of OWW, I wasn’t sure how online PT would work. However, after working with my first couple clients, I was amazed by the results. The ability to measure and assess with online tools makes remote treatments just as accurate as those in-person. The only difference is that you can complete online sessions wherever you are, which allows for increased flexibility in a sometimes uncertain world. In addition, this gives us the ability to provide quality healthcare to those anywhere in the states of California and Nevada.
One of the aspects I love about being an online Physical Therapist for outdoor women is being an available resource for those who don’t live in an area where they can get care from someone who knows their sport. When you are working with a healthcare professional, it is so important that they understand what you are trying to get back to. If they are not knowledgeable on your hobbies, their plan of care may not address necessary areas for your recovery. For example, if you are a rock climber with an ankle injury and trying to explain what a ‘foot jam’ is to your provider who does not climb, this can lead to a disconnect and hinder your ability to get back to climbing specific movement. Have you ever heard from a provider “just don’t do that”, or “I don’t understand” or “you probably shouldn’t do that anymore” and thought your only choice was to give up your passion? Our hobbies make us who we are. Being told that you can’t do something anymore without your provider fully understanding what you are working to get back to can be frustrating. Instead, work with someone who understands the in-and-outs of your outdoor sport so they can provide you with the proper treatment and education on how to return injury-free.
How It Works
First sign-up for a free 15-minute consultation to determine if online physical therapy is right for you. If it is, then we will set up a 50-minute evaluation time where your therapist will discuss your treatment goals and your prior level of function. From there, your movement and strength will be evaluated and a series of special test will be administered. Next, they will share their findings, a timeline of your recovery, and homework with exercise and additional education. After your assessment, you can schedule one appointment at a time or multiple at once depending on what works best for you.
There are some conditions that may require in person physical therapy. When you schedule your free 15-minute consultation, Dr. Zoe will let you know if you would be a good fit for online physical therapy. If it’s not the right fit for you, she will help you find a provider in your area and explain the next steps for your road to recovery.
